What's in your Starter Kit?

The tools in this kit will help us work as a team to personalize your journey based on your body’s response to Virta. Let’s walk through the items to make sure you feel well prepped in knowing how these tools are going to support you!

  • Glucose & Ketone Meter (includes Lancing Device and Control Solutions)
    • The single meter will test for both blood glucose and blood ketone levels.
    • The lancet device is used to collect the blood sample and is made up of two parts: a “lancet holder” that looks like a small pen; and a single-use lancet, which is the sharp point or needle that is placed in the holder. 
    • Control Solution: your meter will come with control solutions for both glucose and ketones. The purpose of the control solution is to test if the meter is working properly and giving accurate results. You should only use the control solution if you have an issue with the meter. You can find more information on how and when to use the control solution, here. 
  • 100 Lancets (for single-use)
  • Testing strips (for both glucose and ketones)
    • Tip: Once you open the container, the test strips will last for 6 months. We suggest you write the first open date on the side of the container as a reminder. Using expired test strips will cause inaccurate results.
  • Alcohol swabs 
  • Cellular Data Enabled Body Weight Scale
    • Stepping on the scale daily will help you capture true weight changes over time. 
    • Note: Readings will automatically sync to the Virta app. 
  • Kitchen Food Scale
    • It is helpful to weigh your portions of protein-containing foods, such as nuts, meat and tofu in order to help you meet your personalized protein target
  • Bouillon
  • Magnesium tablets
    • This mineral helps with muscle cramps and spasms, which are common, and can be corrected by getting enough magnesium. Your care team will help you decide if magnesium supplementation is right for you.

Once your kit arrives

  • Take time to review the list above and the items in your box
  • Set up your meter
    • Refer to the step by step instructions in the “Getting Started with Your Virta Meter” pamphlet from your Starter Kit. 
    • For additional support, visit our support articles about setting up your meter
  • Set up your body-weight scale
    • Use your scale on a hard, flat surface (not carpet), and try not to move it in-between sessions for reliable readings
    • The scale is cellularly connected and readings will automatically sync to the app once the number flashes
  • Let your coach know if you have any questions or concerns about the items in your kit. The sooner we can support you in this journey, the better!
