What is an A1C lab result?
- A1C is a blood test for Type 2 Diabetes and PreDiabetes. It measures your average blood glucose, or blood sugar level over the past two to three months and gives us a better picture of your overall success on the Virta Treatment. Similar to the daily fingerstick tests used with a glucometer, your A1C results can be influenced by different lifestyle and environmental factors, but at a larger scale.
What if my A1C went up during the Virta treatment?
- Follow-up labs are an important indicator of your progress during the Virta Treatment, as they let your Care Team know how you are responding to the treatment and identify any opportunities to update and personalize it more to you. Even if you think you aren’t doing as well as you like, or maybe your A1C went up, it’s still important to get labs done so you and your Care Team can work together on next steps in your journey to better health!
